Two months after new treatment

19 Dec

It’s been more than two months since Mom started her new treatment. She said that it’s definitely affecting her, as she gets really tired mid-day and in early evenings. She also said that she’s having trouble sleeping at nights and she has an increased appetite for food. Her Oncologist told her that these are pretty common side effects of her medication.

The good news is, her latest test shows another positive result! It seems that she is responding well to her new treatment so far. Hopefully this trend will continue πŸ™‚

This is her results from last month (the end of November):

First treatment in 2 1/4 years

3 Oct

After two years and (almost) three months of no treatment following her stem cell transplant, Mom is starting on a new medication today. Her Multiple Myeloma has not shown any symptoms so hopefully this will stop it from flaring out.

She and Dad are still planning on taking their long-awaited 2-weeks vacation later this month.

At first, we were a bit concern about her traveling so soon after starting a new treatment. However, since Mom is the type who really can’t sit still and relax, being away from home (and work) is actually the best way for her to rest.

She will return to Singapore for her follow up check up at the end of the month. Below is today’s test results (before starting treatment):

M band(quant),S Result Expected Range
Protein, Total
Albumin
Globulin

Two years and (almost) two months in

16 Sep

Mom and Dad went to Singapore for a few days at the beginning of the month for her check up.

She got an MRI and a blood panel done a day before her Dr. visit. The MRI result showed that there is some weakness in her spine that is not directly related to her Multiple Myeloma. Apparently it was more because her lower spines were already weakened few years ago. She is advised to do some stretching exercises, not slouch, do some low impact exercises such as swimming, and to start her Zometa treatments again to help strengthen her bones.

Her full blood panel result just came out today . It seems like the numbers have increased outside of normal boundaries. Her Dr. requested that she comes in at the beginning of October for a consultation. He suggested that we start some treatment right away then before she develops any symptoms.

Family get-together and health update

24 Aug

It has been more than a year since I’ve seen my Mom and the rest of the family so we scheduled a weekend vacation with everyone while I was home in August. It was lots of fun and really great to have everyone together again. Mom was excited for a vacation she and Dad has planned in October.

While I was home, Mom mentioned that she has been experiencing some mild pain on her lower back (around the same area of the spine that led us to the Multiple Myeloma diagnosis a little bit over two years ago). What she neglected to mention earlier to everyone else was that her latest test result also showed some numbers that was out of normal range (see June’s test result on previous post). Hearing this, my sister immediately requested an earlier check up appointment (she was scheduled for the end of September, and requested to have it earlier that month instead). She will get an MRI to check her spine and a blood test to see if there is a pattern to her earlier result.

In the meantime, Mom is enjoying her days working and spending time with family.

Two (!!!) years after

19 Jul

Time passes so quickly, it’s hard to keep track of things. Can’t believe it has been 2 years since Mom’s stem cell treatment. She is still not undergoing any other treatment since then. She said that she’s feeling good but still gets tired easily–though if you knew my Mom, you wouldn’t be surprised about this. Even hearing about her daily schedule gets me tired πŸ™‚
